SBD was engaged to transform one of Dublin’s most iconic yet long-abandoned landmarks—The Clontarf Baths—into a vibrant, community-driven hospitality destination. Once a historic saltwater sea baths, closed for over two decades, the site has been reimagined as a contemporary neighbourhood restaurant, café, and outdoor swimming facility overlooking Dublin Bay.
Working closely with Seafield Demesne Management and led by publican and hotelier David Cullen, the concept blends sensitive preservation with relaxed modern design. The architecture honours the legacy of the baths while introducing a welcoming, informal space where locals and visitors can dine, relax, and reconnect with the sea.
The project includes the revitalisation of the outdoor saltwater pool, a sunlit dining room, and a casual café—all framed by expansive bay views. Materials and detailing reflect the nautical and industrial heritage of the original structure, with warm timber, exposed steel, and contemporary glazing. The result is a seamless integration of historic charm and modern coastal culture, establishing The Clontarf Baths as a destination for leisure, lifestyle, and local pride.
