Set along Egypt’s stunning Mediterranean coast, Porto Cleopatra is a visionary waterfront destination in Marsa Matrouh, master planned and designed by SBD International to redefine coastal living and resort experience in North Africa. Blending timeless architectural elegance with responsive site strategy, the project is located just 20 minutes from the town center and offers seamless access to white-sand private beaches, natural rocky outcrops, and views over the historic Cleopatra bathing site.
Spanning a diverse site, the master plan features hotel apartments, villas, chalets, a resort hotel, boardwalk retail, and leisure amenities, structured to maximize sea views while responding to the area’s natural topography. While full sea views were not achievable for all plots, SBD strategically manipulated building placement and landscape contours—originally proposing internal canals and water features to provide visual value throughout. The concept evolved to prioritize lagoon-style pools, elevated terraces, and multi-level landscaping, ensuring every residential zone maintains a connection to water, either visually or physically.
The architecture draws inspiration from regional Mediterranean influences with a modern sensibility. The site’s layout includes 700 single units, a signature hotel with over 15,000 sqm of piazza and beachfront boardwalk, and a semi-circular spa building facing a natural beach rock, envisioned as a modern reinterpretation of Cleopatra’s historic baths. Villas and beachfront chalets cluster along a landscaped rise overlooking a 9-hole pitch and putt golf course, enhancing the resort feel while integrating sport and leisure.
SBD International provided the full spectrum of architectural services, from master planning and villa design to apartment blocks, hotel programming, and sea-view optimization studies. The result is a self-contained, pedestrian-friendly coastal community that balances density, resort lifestyle, and architectural clarity, setting a new benchmark for integrated hospitality-led development along Egypt’s northern coast.
